You have landed, switched on your phone and nothing is loading. Before you assume the worst, take a breath. An eSIM not working is almost always down to a single setting rather than a faulty plan, and most travellers sort it in a couple of minutes. Work through these checks in order and you will find the culprit.
Your QR code has not arrived
Your QR code is emailed the moment your payment clears, so it should already be sitting in your inbox. If you cannot see it, try the following:
- Check your spam, junk and promotions folders, then search your email for "Simju".
- Confirm you typed your email address correctly at checkout. A single wrong letter sends it elsewhere.
- Give it a few minutes if you paid seconds ago, then refresh your inbox.
Still nothing? Do not buy a second plan. Our getting started guide walks through delivery, and our team can resend your QR code straight away.
The eSIM is installed but there is no data
This is the most common one, and it usually comes down to a few toggles. First, remember your plan only starts when you first connect at your destination, so do not worry if it showed nothing while you were still at home.
Turn data roaming on
An eSIM uses a partner network abroad, which counts as roaming even though you are on a local plan. On iPhone, go to Settings, Cellular or Mobile Data, select your Simju line, then switch Data Roaming on. On Android, open Settings, Network and internet, SIMs, pick the Simju SIM and enable Roaming. Leaving this off is the number one reason data will not flow.
Check the right data line is selected
Your physical SIM and your eSIM both live in the phone at once, which is exactly what keeps WhatsApp, iMessage and your normal number working. The trade-off is that your phone might still be trying to use your home SIM for data. Set your Simju eSIM as the line for mobile data, and turn off "Allow Data Switching" so it cannot fall back to your expensive home plan.
Confirm automatic network selection
In your network settings, make sure carrier selection is set to Automatic rather than a network you picked manually. If it is stuck on the wrong carrier, switch to Automatic and let the phone find the strongest local signal.
Toggle airplane mode and restart
If the settings all look correct but data still will not load, give the phone a nudge:
- Turn Airplane Mode on, wait ten seconds, then turn it off. This forces your phone to reconnect to the local network.
- If that does not help, restart the phone completely. A fresh start clears up more connection hiccups than anything else.
These two steps resolve a surprising number of cases where everything is configured but the connection simply has not woken up yet.
Still no signal? Try these steps
If you have data roaming on, the correct line selected and you have restarted, but you are still without service, work through this list:
- Give it time. It can take a few minutes to register on a local network, especially right after landing.
- Move to a spot with better coverage. Thick terminal walls, basements and rural areas all weaken signal.
- Check the label on your eSIM line is turned on and set as active in your settings.
- Make sure your phone is unlocked. A handset locked to your home carrier will block a travel eSIM, and most phones from 2019 onward support eSIM once unlocked.
- Look at your data allowance. If your plan has run out, you will need to top up or buy a fresh plan from our full range.
It is also worth double-checking your device is genuinely eSIM-ready before you travel. Our compatibility page lists what to look for, and the activation guide covers installing and switching on your plan correctly.
A quick pre-departure checklist
Most problems are avoidable if you set up before you fly. Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi, but do not turn on the plan until you arrive. Keep your QR code email handy, confirm your phone is unlocked, and read our how it works page so nothing catches you out at the gate.
When to contact support
If you have worked through every step above and your eSIM is still not working, that is the moment to reach out rather than keep guessing. Our support team is human and available 24/7 on chat and email, so someone can look at your specific device and plan. Head to our help centre or the contact page, or email support@simju.com with your order details. And because every plan comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, you are never stuck with something that will not connect.
